Sportstalk: Michelle like you said before the first three Cal wins did not make a season and the true test was in Oregon and Cal failed miserably 42-3. The issue of quarterback Kevin Riley was brought up as he went 12-31 for 123 yards and no touchdowns and he averaged four yards and running back Jahvid Best carried 16 times for 55 yards. Question is was it a matter of too much Oregon or did the Bears come in over confident only to have their bubble burst?
I believe it was a combination of the two and the fact that this is what the Bears do every year. They play well in the beginning and just when you think you are going to a BCS Bowl Game. You end up at the Holliday Bowl. They just started their decline early. Coach Tedford definitely gave this program life, but it seems that they have reach a plateau and unable to go past being a good team instead of a great team.
Sportstalk: Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli on the other hand had a hot hand with 253 yards and three touchdowns. Masoli kept the Oregon offense going with running back La Michael James 21 carries for 118 yards and one touchdown and wide receiver Ed Dickson with 11 catches for 148 yards with three touchdowns.Oregon is now 3-1 (1-0) and they have been touted since last year to be one of the up and coming teams in the Pac Ten?
The season is still young and have we learned anything from Cal and USC ? It seems I have to say this every year but "THAT'S WHY WE PLAY THE GAMES." Call me in December, cause the Pac-10 is wide open.
Sportstalk: In other news of the NCAA in the Mountain West the New Mexico State Aggies 2-2 (0-1) handed the New Mexico Lobos 0-4 (0-1) another loss and dropped the Lobos to 6th place with Texas Tech up on the schedule losing last Saturday in a tight ball game 20-17. The Lobos are winless and upset. What needs to be improved on from a coaching stand point to get the Lobos in the win column?
The University of New Mexico Lobos are going through some growing pains. They have a new head coach and a new coaching staff. They are learning to play in a new system. Strangely enough I believe that they are playing better defensively than they did last year. As for the offense they are very young. I have confidence that Coach Mike Locksley will do what is necessary to get his team on the right track.
Final Thoughts
1. I watched the most loyal Oakland Raider fans (Fans who sit in the BLACK HOLE) chant "RUSSELL SUCKS!!" I am inclined to agree with these fans. Some have gone so far as to name the Raider QB "Can't Hit Your Marcus Russell." I'll let you in on a little secret . . . Russell wasn't good in college. He was just big with a lot of talent around him. I have continually said he was not a good choice as the number on overall draft pick (see Matt Leinert). The Oakland Raiders got what they overpaid for, a QB who looks as though he doesn't study his play book or film. The Peyton Mannings of the world are a once in a lifetime gift that the football Gods give us for being faithful fans. Everyone else must earn the right to be beloved (See Joe Montana, 3rd Round Draft Pick, Tom Brady 4th Round Draft Pick).
Advice to JaMarcus park the Bently and purchase a Prius and earn they right to flossy.
2. Hey Cal! Thanks for sending the ESPN Gameday crew to Boston to cover the Florida State vs. Boston College game instead of covering your game against USC.
3. We are now in the painful days of fall. Baseball will not go away.
