Sportstalk: Michelle the NCAA is thinking about going to a playoff format. It's been such an issue even President Obama at one time weighed in on it. Is it about time for the NCAA to go to a playoff format and that teams who are eliminated because of some political poll or decision will now get to the playoffs based on their wins and losses instead of politics?
Now the NCAA wants a playoff??? This is a David Copperfield, Chris Angel, slight of hand move. Conferences are pillaging team from other conferences, and the NCAA is trying to look like they have some control over what is actually taking place. They can do what they want, but they need to be careful that they don't ruin NCAA basketball, moving all these team for the sake of football.
Sportstalk: Michelle it will be the first meeting between eighth ranked Oklahoma State and seventh ranked Texas A & M since 1975. Although it's been a longtime; Texas A & M head coach Mike Sherman expects both teams to run up yardage since both teams maintain explosive offenses. How do you like this match up and the teams meeting up for the first time in 21 years?
I like this match up, and I think Oklahoma State will be victorious. Texas A&M is too busy thinking about their move to the SEC and being a second thought to the University of Texas.
Sportstalk: The New Mexico Lobos 0-3 (0-1) were seeing nothing but Red like in Red Raiders crossing the goal line in their territory all last weekend in a 59-13 hammering by Texas Tech. The Lobos are set to play Sam Houston State 2-0 (1-0). Michelle talk about what you see for the Lobos in this game with Sam Houston coming up, more of the same? Or a changed game plan making it a tighter game?
I see the Lobos getting their first win of the season and hopefully gaining some confidence. If UNM looses to Sam Houston State there is no doubt that Coach Mike Locksley will be done at the end of the season. His tenure at New Mexico has not been successful and his task of winning in the Mountain West Conference has become more difficult with the addition of Boise State.
Final Thoughts:
1. The NBA has cancelled the pre-season (thank God) and training camps indefinitely. First, I have a deep distain for the pre-season of any sport. I don't watch the audition shows of American Idol and I don't watch tryouts for professional sports teams. But, the NBA better recognize that they are loosing their marque athletes. Deron Williams is playing in Turkey, and Kobi Bryant has a very substantial offer from an Italian League team. Do you really want a season without The Black Mamba"? Get your act together. The biggest issue is the hard salary cap like in the NFL. The league wants it, the players don't. Both sides better do a Project Runway and "Make it Work."
2. On Wednesday, September 28, 4pm PST, 7 CBS Sports Networks will air 1st & Goal in the Bronx: Grambling vs. Morgan State 1968. This is the story of the first college football game between Historically Black Colleges in New York City. If you are a football fan, you need to watch this.
3. Cam Newton has had a great first two games. But, before you start drinking the Kool Aid please realize that it's still early and the league hasn't figured out his game. Let's see if he looks the same come week 8.
