Fighters with Bay Area ties go 3-0

Three fighters that participated in UFC 76 have ties to the Bay Area and all three were able to pull off victories. Tyson Griffin (10-1) was born in Sacramento and now trains out of Las Vegas. He was able to defeat Thiago Tavares, a Brazilian fighter who entered the fight a perfect 16-0. Jon Fitch (20-2, 1 NC), who trains in San Jose (born in Ft. Wayne, IN), pulled off the biggest upset of the evening. He defeated Diego Sanchez in a split decision. Christian Wellisch, a native of Hungary, trains in Sacramento and defeated the Hawaii native, Scott Junk in impressive fashion. He nearly broke Junk's leg with a heel hook 3:19 into the first round. |
