1. Michelle everyone is contemplating the opening game at Cal. There is a lot that surrounds this game can you touch a little on the following, Cal is going to use both quarterbacks Kevin Reilly and Nate Longshore to start games, Cal will improvise since most of the stars from last season have left or joined the NFL, will fans leave the tree sitters alone and let them do their protest in trying to save the trees, and finally talk show host Jeremy Kahn will not be at this game but will he silently be rooting for Michigan State?
Cal is going with a two-quarterback system; this is something that they should have done last year. I wish them luck with that cause I don't know who they will be passing or handing the ball off to. This year will big test for Coach Tedford and the Greatful Teds.
The fate of the tree sitters is in the hands of the Berkeley Police Department. Since Berkeley has a strong history of civil protest let'em do what they do.
Finally, Jeremy Kahn is a University of Michigan fan (Go Blue!) and would never be caught dead cheering for the Michigan State Spartans.
2. The Cardinal have a number of injuries before opening night even starts on Thursday night. Left guard Gustav Rydstedt is out with a concussion, wide receiver Marcus Rance suffered a serious knee injury during practice last Sunday and is expected to have lots of down time, wide receiver Richard Sherman (knee) and Tony Gerhart (hamstring) will not play on Thursday night either. Given these injuries and how the Cardinal depended on those players how do you see the outcome of Thursday night's opener against Oregon State?
It is a toss up. Oregon State is going through a few growing pains, and Stanford is looking to build on the momentum they had from last year. At this point neither team is a contender for the Pac 10 Championship, so they will not focus on what their deficits, and the next in line on those teams will have to step their game up to get a victory on Thurs.
3. The USC Trojans once again are the favorites, in spite of the old reliable prediction call do you see any surprises or any teams that will give the Trojans a run for their money in the Pac Ten this year?
If I am not mistaken the season hasn't started yet. So, you can say that the Dahli Lama will win the Pac 10, but it doesn't make it so. Let's play the games and see who is the winner.
Final Thoughts:
1. I hope that Ohio State doesn't try to rush Freshman QB Terrell Pryor. This young man has the potential to be an outstanding QB if brought along slowly. I believe they are trying to get him ready to start against USC.
2. Good luck to the Howard University Bison (my alma mater) who have added former Clemson RB Ray McElrathbey who graduated from Clemson University in three years with a degree in Sociology. McElrathbey brings 2 years of eligibility with him, and will be majoring in journalism at the John H. Johnson School of Communication (School of C)! Which was also my major and my school.).
McElrathbey played behind C.J. Spiller and James Davis at Clemson, but is also know for gaining full custody of his 11-year-old brother Farmar. The Bison begin their season at home against Georgetown University.
3. R.I.P. to Bernie Mac, Isaac Hayes, and Gene Upshaw.
