Sportstalk: On Saturday night David Wright was on the other side of a Matt Cain up and in which he took on the helmet for a concussion and was sent to the hospital for observation. Later Pablo Sandoval had a pitch that was thrown behind him. Cain got the win but hitting Wright was something that he said was not intentional. No benches emptied like Wednesday but it could have been the second consecutive series (like the Dodgers) which would have seen benches empty. Michael please describe how Cain's pitch got away?

I don't know that I can do that. I've never thrown 94 in my life. Probably never thrown harder than 80 at live hitters. I've thrown the ball one place and had it wind up in another, though. It just slips out of your hand wrong. Players on both teams insisted it was not intentional -- 0-2 pitch, runner on first, and it's already clear that Matt Cain is not a head-hunter -- if he were interested in throwing at someone, it would be appropriately, below the waist.

Sportstalk: The Giants are now just a game back of the Rockies do you see this Wild Card race going right down to the wire for the next month and a half?

Absolutely, and it will involve far more teams than the Giants and Rockies. The Marlins are right there, the Cubs are getting their rotation back from the disabled list -- it's going to be a multi-team dogfight through September.

Sportstalk: The A's had a near come back on Friday night and have won three of the last four series. They lost this series in Chicago but made a go of it. What's been the difference for some of these victories?

The offense is picking up a little, the young pitchers are going a bit deeper into the games, and Mark Ellis has been phenomenal, leading baseball with 19 RBIs through Sunday for the month of August.
