The San Antonio Silver Stars walloped the Monarchs 72-61 on Thursday night, bumping Sacramento out of second place in the Western Division.
Becky Hammon, the Silver Stars leading scorer this season, returned to the line-up after missing two games with a foot injury. Hammon scored 16 points in her triumphant return. The Silver Stars were paced by Sophia Young and Shanna Crossley who both scored 19 points each.
San Antonio held the Monarchs to 36% shooting from the field and a measly 12.5% from behind the arch. On the other hand, the Silver Stars posted 50% shooting and deluged Sacramento raining down threes at a 43% clip, hitting 7 of 16.
Eleven Monarchs saw court time, in an effort to stave off the Silver Stars. Yo Griffith led the Monarchs, such as they were, with 15 points. Rebekkah Brunson pitched in 12 points and 16 rebounds to round out the bright side for the Monarchs.
The Texas road trip continues tomorrow night in Houston. The Monarchs return home to Arco on Sunday where they will catch the Washington Mystics on the tail end of a back-to-back.
