SACRAMENTO- Seimone Augustus brought her teammates into Sacramento with an 11-game losing streak to the hometown Monarchs dating back to July of 2004. Augustus carried the Lynx on her back scoring a career high 39 points helping her team to a 78-73 win.
Augustus’ superlative performance over shadowed the career night of Nicole Powell, who herself scored 29 points with 23 of those coming in the second half.
The Lynx’s defense was stellar all night keeping the Monarchs offense from putting together any real sizeable runs.
The Lynx who at 7-20 are playing for pride, found it in the hands of Augustus who on this night was playing on a whole different level from anyone else in the Arena.
“It was a good night for me individually but I think most important we played as a team” Augustus said her post-game interview.
The may have her sediment but she was unstoppable from the field going 16 for 25. Every player that the Monarchs threw her way seemed to be slow and clumsy as she broke down Monarch after Monarch.
Jenny Boucek has a talented offense and it tried to mount a comeback late in the fourth climbing to within three with less than 18 seconds on the clock. But both Kara Lawson and Nicole Powell missed good looks at a 3 pointer in the last seconds of the game.
With this loss and San Antonio’s victory tonight, Sacramento drops to third place in the Western Conference. Coach Boucek needs to find an answer for her sometime disappearing offense or the Monarchs will continue to fall in the standings.
