New York third baseman Alex Rodriguez ended up on his backside when Royals pitcher Blake Woods threw one up and in that hit A-Rod on his left hand which bruised him. A-Rod and Yankee manager Joe Girardi concurred that the bean ball was not intentional and it simply was one pitch that got away from Woods.
A-Rod chasing his 600th home run is stalled on 599 and sat out Sunday's game after x-rays proved negative. The pitch was up and in and when he fell it looked from almost every live angle that A-Rod was hit in the face. To the sigh of relief for the Yankees and Rodriguez A-Rod says he'll be back for Monday's game in Cleveland, "I have pretty much full strength. I should be okay. I was a little more fearful of the ball coming towards my face and, obviously, the hand is so sensitive. It's very easy to break a bone. I'm just glad none of that happened." said the Yankee star.
Ex-A's pitcher Danny Haren to Halos: The Los Angeles Angels got in a dealing mood on Monday morning and they had to think fast after rival the Texas Rangers picked up pitcher Cliff Lee from Seattle the Angels grabbed pitching ace Danny Haren from the Arizona Diamondbacks for Joe Saunders and three minor players.
Angels manager Mike Scioscia said this was the high caliber quality move the Angels were shopping for and that Haren can bring home the bacon and make the race down to the wire count against the Rangers in stretch drive,"We felt really good about our starting five moving forward with what we have but this is a huge opportunity for us to upgrade not only now but for the next several years. This guy still has his stuff and it gives us a deeper front end of our rotation, and that's what every championship caliber team is striving to do. We were able to do that with this move and were excited about it." said Scioscia.
Haren a former A's pitcher has three all-star games under his belt, has averaged 15 wins per season in the past five years, is 7-8 and has an ERA of 4.60 and is in the second year of his four year deal worth $44.75 million. Haren says he excited about being back to his roots Haren is a native of the Southland.
McMurray takes it to the Brickyard: Jamie McMurray won Brickyard's Motor 400 race at Roush-Fenway on Sunday. McMurray took the checkered flag as team mate Juan Pablo Montoya had the lead but a pit stop changed the dynamics for McMurray. A pit stop for Montoya with 86 laps with 138 laps to go. Montoya was going for a four tire change.
After the break Montoya re-entered the race but got clogged up in traffic and slammed into a wall on the Indianapolis front stretch and went across the track and was rear ended by Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Montoya had done everything right to win the race but it was the collision with the wall that changed the race for him on Sunday Montoya's crew chief Brian Pattie said of the four tire change, "Bad call, crew chief error, we should have taken two tires."
