Instant replay needed in baseball?

The San Francisco Giants just had a win taken from them.

Travis Ishikawa was called out at home on a play where Freddy Sanchez hit a ball to third and David Wright fielded it and tossed to catcher Henry Blanco for the second out of the ninth inning.

Replays on TV showed that without doubt Ishikawa was same. That would have ended the game 4-3, Giants. The Giants and Mets went to the 10th, and the Mets prevailed 4-3.

Major League Baseball should use instant replay, and thus be a part of the technology available. Games like this should belong to the team that wins on the field of play.

We watched the World Cup soccer people, and we criticized the many bad calls. And, we made comments like, "Why don't they just get it right ?"

If the World Cup people owe it to their fans, then why doesn't Major League Baseball ??

Look at the way the National Football League is busting their butts to get it right.

Now, remember, this thing will cut both ways. You'll win some and lose some.

But, it'll be RIGHT. Getting it right means you are serious about what happens.

There is no doubt about what happened. The Mets catcher was interviewed after the game and confirmed what everyone saw with their eyes. Henry Blanco said Umpire Phil Cuzzi confirmed that he blew the call.

We cannot take care of all the problems. What can we do with badly called balls and strikes certainly beyond what we would like to do.

But there are plays where the pictures don't lie. And, we would want to restrict the numer of occasions each team could do it, so as not to slow down the game.

Ain't it worth "GETTING IT RIGHT ?"
