Several visitors who reportedly were in former Baltimore Ravens quarterback Steve McNair's condo in Tennessee are being questioned by the Nashville Police in the shooting murder of the former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve "Air" McNair who was found dead sometime on Saturday's July 4th Holiday he was 36. McNair who quarterbacked last for the Baltimore Ravens was found dead with his girlfriend who at press time was not identified. There were 50 people outside of the condo paying their respects after learning of his death.
Nashville Police spokesman Don Aaron said that there were several people who were either visiting or around the condo at the time of either the shooting or the discovery of McNair's death. "There were persons who were around the complex today, visitors who have been taken to headquarters for questioning, just to see what they know, what they have seen. No one is in custody right now." said Aaron.
McNair's murder was questioned by the press to Aaron as to when it took place either on Friday night or during the day on Saturday. According to sources the murder was taken place on Saturday during what could have been a 4th of July Holiday celebration with friends and family getting together at McNair's home. Details of the motive of the shooting are sketchy but it could have been over an argument or someone who was not wanted at the condo who was asked to leave.
McNair quarterbacked for 11 years for the Titans and his final two years with Baltimore before retiring in 2007. McNair was heavily involved in the Tennessee community helping youth in their football programs. The Ravens public relations department in a ESPN interview said that the murder hit the organization hard. In the short time that McNair was with the club he did a lot of off field charity work and had the respect of the local schools and community in much the way he's respected in Tennessee.
New England Patriots advisor Floyd Reese who was the General Manager of the Titans when McNair was with the team said of the shocking news, "I'm deeply saddened to learn of the tragic news regarding the death of Steve McNair. He was a player who I admired a great deal. He was a tremendous leader and an absolute warrior. He felt it was his responsibility to lead by working hard everyday, no matter what. I don't think there was a player who didn't look up to him and respect him. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, his friends and the many teammates who loved and admired him" said Reese.
McNair's residence was within walking distance of restaurants and night clubs and Titan Stadium could be seen from the his upscale Rutledge Hill neighborhood. McNair started his NFL career with the Houston Oilers in 1995 before being dealt to the Tennessee Titans and he threw for 31,304 yards and 174 touchdowns. McNair's aching injuries forced him to retire from the game in 2007 with Baltimore.
In the 2000 Super Bowl McNair drove the ball some 87 yards in 48 seconds and came up one yard short when he threw to Kevin Dyson who caught his nine yard pass which would have ended up tying up the ball game but was stopped by the Rams Mike Jones in a close contest in which the Titans battled the Rams after being down 16-0.
The investigation is still continuing into Saturday night and a lot of questions are still being asked. The months of June and July have been brutal in celebrity deaths starting with Ed McMahon of the Tonight Show, Farrah Fawcett of Charlie's Angels, singer Michael Jackson, pitchman Billy Mays, and McNair.
