SCOTT LANGLEY
Congratulations to amateur Scott Langley, St. Louis, MO, who shot a second round of 2-under, one of the best of the day. He appeared to use the center of the green approach as if there were no flags.
PHIL MICKELSON
Phil Mickelson started his round of 66 by making 5 birdies on the first 8 holes. On hole #8 where the second shot is over the ocean, Phil’s tee shot was dangerously close to the side of the cliff. In fact, you could see whales breaking the surface in the ocean and his ball resting close to the danger sign posted at the edge of the cliff. From this precarious position he hit a sterling approach shot and rolled in the birdie putt.
HIROYUKI FUJITA
Hiroyuki Fujita, Japan, was in early contention until he played his 11th hole. Experiencing something that most of us golfers have experienced, he pitched the ball twice from four feet off the green. This double ended his charge and he ended the day at 149 tied for 59.

INTERVIEW HIGHLIGHTS FROM NOTABLES
GRAEME McDOWELL: 1 -139
When I won at Loch Lomond a few years ago, I achieved all my dreams, I was on the Ryder Cup. It felt like a big, big deal. This time I feel different. I feel very relaxed and very under control of what I'm doing, just trying to feed off that confidence. You know, the golf course is very fair.
Winning Major Championships is what I've dreamed of all my life and what I've practiced for. Over the seven or eight years I've been playing in them there's no doubt I've been learning more and more about myself and what it takes to win a Major.
I feel like I say, I feel I'm as ready as I'm ever going to be. That doesn't mean my name's on the trophy this Sunday afternoon. There's a hell of a lot of work to do. This course is ready to bite you any second. I'm going to be relaxed and disciplined and try to keep control of my emotions and see where that leaves me Sunday afternoon.
TIGER WOODS: T25 -146
Well I'm right there. I'm right there in the championship. I just need to make a few more birdies, a few more putts on the weekend and I'll be right there. I feel very good. I'm right there and I'm only, what, seven back. And this is a long haul at a U.S. Open. This is a long haul.
PHIL MICKELSON: T2 -141
I thought something in the 60s was out there and would get me into contention. I knew I needed to get off to a quick start because the birdie holes are the first seven and I needed to capitalize on that.
I can't wait for tomorrow's round, I love just being on the golf course playing. I don't want the tournament to end. I want to just keep playing. I think guys who cherish the U.S. Open feel that way about Pebble Beach, and I think guys who love the British Open feel that way about St. Andrews.
I think this is the greatest place for a golfer to hold an Open to be able to play one of the most beautiful golf courses and have it be in U.S. Open conditions. No, this is so much fun and I don't want the weekend to end. I want to keep playing. I can't wait to get out tomorrow for that 4:15 tee time in the afternoon, it's great.
TOM WATSON: T59 – 149
I hate to miss the cut. I mean I do. I just it's just, it grates on me when I miss the cut. I hate it. I always have.
There's an outside chance that I might be able to get in, with the 10 shot rule, but there's still, there's no wind right now and this golf course is, the teeth, most of the teeth are, that we saw yesterday are pretty dull today. They're not very sharp, and the golf course is playing. It's going to give up some scores.
Tom made the cut and will tee off at 10:30 in the morning.
