Sacramento CA: Mike Brown held on to his championship by defeating Urijah Faber in Arco Arena Saturday in front of packed house of loyal Faber fans. Faber trains out of Sacramento and is known as the “California Kid”. Brown who had beaten Faber before, dominated the fight from the Second round on to hold on to the championship. Faber hurt his right hand early in the first round and was unable to use his striking ability to do any damage at all.
Brown used his superior size and aggressiveness all five rounds to torment and harass a seemingly overwhelmed Faber. It might have been the hand, which was clearly swollen after the fight, that helped Brown or the fact he appeared to be the much better fight.
It seemed surprising that Faber made all five rounds in this championship fight while losing on all three of the judges’ scorecards.
The other results of the night were:
Jose Aldo over Cub Swanson by knockout
Donald Cerrone over James Krause by submission
Josh Grispi over Jen Pulver by submission
Mauuel Gamburyan over John Franchi by Unanimous decision
Rafela Rebello over Kyle Dietz but submission
Anthony Pettis over Mike Campbell by submission
Antonio Banuelos over Scott Jorgenson by Split Decision
Frank Gomez over Noah Thomas by submission
Seth Dikun over Rolando Perez by Submission
