SAN FRANCISCO--When we got to talk to Jose Lima during his Astros and Dodgers days he was a kick, a laugh, a guy who if he smoked cigars (he didn't) would fit in after a win after dueling out on the mound and the cigar would be a prop. The only time we got to see Lima was when he ventured into Candlestick Park or Pac Bell. Lima was 37.
He was animated and he was more than you bargained for he was vocal in the locker room and he ribbed his teammates and his humor helps in the dog days of a 162 game schedule with 81 of those days involving being on the road. Lima also can bring it in 1999 it was when he won 21 games against 10 loses he had an 3.58 ERA that season.
Career he was 89-102 and had a career ERA of 5.26. In Kansas City, Houston, and Los Angeles there were moments of silence to remember Lima. For us we will remember Lima for the humor and the times when he told fans and media what time it was, Lima Time.
