SACRAMENTO--The Sacramento Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof fired Kings coach Rick Adleman after eight seasons. Adelman had lead the Kings to the playoffs in each of eight season as head coach.
Adelman was rumored to be on the outs through out the season, and was not offered a contract extention from the Maloofs. Adelman had one more year left on his current contract. Adelman's relationship with the Maloof's had a lot left to be desired.
When Adelman received the news of the termination, the Maloof's were attending the Giants game at AT&T Park and were talking with Giants outfielder Barry Bonds before the ball game.
Candidates that Kings General Manager Geoff Petrie has in mind Don Nelson Sr., Terry Porter, and Eddie Jordan. Jordan is a heavy favorite and Petrie like Jordan when he was an assistant coach with the Kings in 1993-97.
The Kings were eliminated in this year's post season in five games to the San Antonio Spurs in the best of seven games marking Adelman's swan song.
