SACRAMENTO - The Seattle Supersonics' Ray Allen stole
the show Sunday night at ARCO Arena in Game 4 of the
Western Conference playoffs. Allen racked up a career
playoff-high 45 points, including six 3-pointers, as
the Sonics beat the Sacramento Kings 115-102 Sunday
night. Seattle now leads the best-of-7 first-round
series 3-1 going back to Seattle on Tuesday.
Rashard Lewis added 19 points and Jerome James had 17
in the victory.
"(The Kings) played great defense on me. I just found
the cracks. That's what I do. I tried to stay tuned to
what I do," Allen said. The Kings trailed most of the
night and came within six points with 1:30 left, but
Allen nailed his most important 3-pointer of the night
at the 1:02 mark to put the game out of reach.
Kings head coach Rick Adelman was amazed by Allen.
"Some of the shots he made were incredible. There were
times when he broke our focus. When he's rolling like
that, he's the quickest shooter in the league. He was
just draining it," Adelman said.
Peja Stojakovic had 27 points for Sacramento, 21 in
the first half. Mike Bibby, who had the hot hand
Friday night, scored only 13 points on 4-for-12
shooting.
"It's a big blow, but we still have life. No one will
sit down, but we've got to try to get the ball out of
(Allen's) hands, make someone else do it. Make him
pass the ball," said Bibby.
JC and Kenny G's footnotes: This is it, folks. It's
all on the line Tuesday night at Key Arena in Seattle.
If the Kings lose this one, it's next year. The Kings
have their work cut out for them playing on the home
floor of the Sonics when their key players have hot
hands.
At 1-3, the Kings' chances don't look very good, but
the Kings have not lost an opening-round series in the
playoffs since 2000.
Ken Gimblin and Joe Cronin are joined at the hip for
Giants and NBA coverage of the playoffs.
They both co-host Sportstalk on 1430 KVVN San Jose and
1110 KLIB Sacramento.
