The Pittsburgh Steelers have not denied a trade rumor that is in the works that could send veteran Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to another NFL team for some top draft picks. Amongst some teams mentioned by unnamed sources were teams who finished at the bottom of the standings last season and were in need of good quarterbacking.
There is no doubt that Roethlisberger passed the audition in off season camp which just opened up this week. Roethlisberger is huge to the Pittsburgh Steelers however his transgressions is something the team is reevaluating. Hence entering Steelers president Art Rooney II who spoke to Roethlisberger urging him to take advantage of getting medical help which the team is offering to get him back on track.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also was present in the meeting and didn't let his words be a secret as to what he said to Roethlisberger, "You are held to a higher standard as an NFL player, and there is nothing about your conduct in Milledgeville that can remotely be described as admirable, responsible, or consistent with either the values of the league or the expectations of our fans."
Commissioner Goodell is going to suspend Roethlisberger for his conduct in Georgia for contributing to a minor and giving alcohol to a 20 year old woman under 21. Goodell said that Roethlisberger will not be disciplined for the sexual assault and that charges by Georgia authorities were dropped.
Roethlisberger was sourced to be facing a 4-6 game suspension, but sources say it's more likely going to be in the neighborhood of six games. "there is no question that the excessive consumption of alcohol that evening put the students and you at risk." said Goodell
Goodell said this is a second chance for Roethlisberger whose already been on a binge in previous incidents this one being the worst as the woman was held against her will and Roethlisberger's body guards one which included a Pennsylvania state trooper held the woman's friends back who were trying to either rescue her or see how she was. "in your six years in the NFL, you have first thrilled and now disappointed a great many people. I urge you to take full advantage of this opportunity to get your life and career on track." said Goodell.
In 2006 Roethlisberger injured himself in a motorcycle accident, he was not wearing a helmet and was lucky to survive and get back to 100% health.
In 2009 Roethlisberger was looking at rape charges when a Nevada woman leveled a civil law suit against the quarterback for an alleged rape in 2008. The woman was an employee at a Nevada Casino. Criminal charges were dropped.
