1. Kansas finished off North Carolina with a 13-0 run. The Jayhawks lead by as much as 28 points and knocked off the Tar Heels 84-66 at the Alamodome. The Jay Hawks will play in the finals with Memphis on Monday.
This is going to be a great NCAA Finals. The run and gun Memphis Tigers versus the fundamental precision of the Kansass Jayhawk. This is a heavyweight boxing match and both fighters are very evenly matched. I say get a drink, a big bowl of chips and dip, and sit back and enjoy every bit of the game.
I may not have been correct about the Final Four teams, but I told you that North Carolina would not be in the finals. Let's face guys the ACC was not the basketball conference it has been in the past. I just don't feel that they were truly challenged. It is easy to dominate a conference that doesn't challenge you, but can you dominate a team that has to fight its way past multiple teams in their conference? North Carolina's answer to that question was . . . NO.
2. The Memphis Tigers did away with the UCLA Bruins 78-63 becoming the winningest team ever (31-1), advancing to the finals. UCLA was one of the more powerful teams in the tournament how did the Tigers beat the Bruins?
Memphis had too much horsepower for UCLA. UCLA looked old and stodgy, and Kevin Love could not save them, and the Bruins had no defense against the Tigers. Not to mention that Derek Rose and Chris Douglass-Roberts had their way on the court.
3. The University of California annouced introduced the new Men's Basketball Coach, Tim Montgomery. What do you think Montgomery will bring Bears program; and do you believe that Montgomery can bring back some of that old magic that he had from his days as coach at Stanford?
I think that the hiring of Tim Montgomery was a good move, I just hope that Cal did a thorough search. I think that the hire was done really quick. You just fired Ben Braun last week.
Tim Montgomery will bring more structure to the Bears, but I don't want him to do what he did at Stanford, at Cal. I want him to do better. When kids play sports at Stanford they are not hoping for a professional careers (unless they play golf or tennis). Montgomery knows X's and O's, but can he lead young men? Yes. Can he win? He has before, but today is a new day. The real question is; can he recruit?
Final Thoughts:
1. I am already sick of baseball season.
2. Congradualtions to Stanford's Senior Guard, Candace Wiggins. Wiggins won the Wade Trophy which is given to the best Women's basketball player in the country.
3. I am loving the NBA Western Confernce. No one has clinched a playoff birth. That is how tight the standings are. The Western Confernce champion ship will probaly be better than the NBA Finals.
