Good Victory On Good Friday For Stealth

SAN JOSE (SRS)--The San Jose Stealth entered Friday's night's game at HP Pavilion on a 7 game losing streak. That fact led to a deeply concerned Johnny Mouridian, Stealth head coach. Mouridian, who earlier spoke with Sportstalk host Ralph Gora, said that the club needed to finish the season on an up note, and also needed a victory to stay out of the cellar.

The Stealth picked up only their second home win of the season, making them 4-9 on the campaign. In the process, they did avoid last place in the NLL West by squeaking out a 15-14 win over the division's last place team, the Anaheim Storm. The Storm left the building with a season record of 2-9.

The Stealth had not won a game since January 29th when they beat the Colorado Mammoth to set their record at 3-2. Friday night’s game literally went down to the wire, as the winning goal came with only three seconds left in regulation. The Stealth had led by as many as three goals, but the Storm did not go down easily. Anaheim seemed to answer the early Stealth goals almost at will, as San Jose clung to an 8-6 lead at half time in front of some three thousand plus souls at HP Pavilion.

The Storm's Casey Powell had a scrapbook evening, nearly burning out the red light with five goals. The game got really exciting when the Storm took a lead with 3:14 remaining in the game after Powell scored his final and fifth goal of the game, making it 14-13 Anaheim.

The Stealth’s Ryan Boyle answered right back at 0:31 with a behind the back shot on goaltender Matt King to tie it at 14 all.

With the Stealth trying to avoid OT and another home loss forward Derek Malawsky nailed home the final goal of the game, a game winner past King again with but three ticks left for the 15-14 victory.

For Malawsky it was his second goal of the game and his 12th for the season. The Stealth's next home game is scheduled for Friday April 8th at the Pavilion with a 7:30 pm start time. The Stealth will play a single game that week against Rochester. They had played three weeks of home-and-home series that started in Arizona on March 11th.
