SAN JOSE--With a bloody cut above his left eye in the second round the injury would prove to be the fall of Rubin "Mr.Hollywood" Williams 29-4 (16 KOs) in a loss to local favorite Andre Ward whose record stays prestine at 15-0 (9 KOs) on Thursday night.

The fight went seven rounds in a TKO at 2:51 of the seventh round. Williams was bleeding so badly above the eye that referees called the fight.

In the first round both fighters were dancing around trying to feel things out and jabbing, both mixing it up with a jab hook and a right.

Second round more jabbing and hookng and some straight rights and Ward was delivering some jarring hooks and Ward ended cutting Williams above the left eye in that second round. There was more jabbing and hooking by Ward and there were some straight shots to the head and Ward then in the third and fourth rounds was continuing to hook and jab Williams and gave him more straight shots.

The two were mixing it up in the center of the ring and this went for rounds three, four, five and six more jabbing, hooking more straight shots.

Ward was in command of the fight from the first round. Williams looked puzzled in the fight with Ward's style and was not agressive at all. Ward was the agressor all the way. Ward had control of the fight all the way through. Williams was not in any serious trouble but Williams was not stepping up in any way to indicate that he would win this fight.

Ward ended up fighting a defensive fighter and Williams pretty much had to defend himself throughout the whole seven rounds particularily when he was cut above the left eye. When the seventh round did come Williams was bleeding so much above the left eye the official stepped in and called the fight and it was ruled that Ward was the winner on a TKO.

Ward was working on hitting above the eye after the first sight of blood in the second round and got some good mid section shots in on Williams. It was not a spectatular fight but Ward won and still maintains a perfect record.
