Sportstalk: The Toney Awards came early for Florida State University at the ACC Finals as the Seminoles on Saturday advanced to their first ACC in school history with a huge victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels 73-70. The number 22 ranked school lead by Toney Douglas who racked up 27 points was lights out and it's just a big night when you have someone with the hot hand and it proves you can beat any club on any given night.
Well, first I have to say . . . F-L-O-R-I-D-A! S-T-A-T-E! FLORIDA STATE, FLORIDA STATE, FLORIDA STATE! (You can't tell that I am an alum, can you?) It was great to see the Seminoles defeat UNC, cause that's why we love March Madness. We know that FSU will not beat Duke, but it is possible, and the fact that they have beat Duke in regular season play, and the Tarheels in the conference semi-finals should get the a bid.
Sportstalk: The Louisville Cardinals upended #18 Syracuse for thier first Big East title win in a 10 pointer 76-66. Head coach Rick Pitino said that winning the two to take the Big East title was the toughest road for him of the season but he's proud of all his Red Birds.
Syracuse was spent when they played Louisville. They played seven overtimes in two days; their was just nothing left in the tank. Syracuse played some of the most exciting basketball of the past week. The Orange will be in the tournament, with new found determination. They know they can win! Most importantly, they believe they can win, and that makes them dangerous.
Sportstalk: Big win for USC just eeking by the Arizona State Sun Devils in the Pac Ten Tournament with a 66-63 victory for their first Pac Ten Tournament title and what a finish too Freshman DeMar DeRozan scored 25 points, Daniel Hackett and Dwight Lewis had 19 to help USC with the win. In a win like this Michelle it has to be special to get not only the first Tournament win but also to do it in the Southland for SC?
It was good for them to win, but USC will not make it out of the second round. They only began to play in the PAC-10 tournament. They really showed me nothing in the regular season. They were not as good as ASU, or Washington, so we will see if they were playing to win or playing to help Tim Floyd keep his job.
Final Thoughts:
1. Congratulations to SUNY - Binghamton! They won their first conference title and they are on their way to the big dance. Enjoy your time there gentlemen, there is nothing like your first time.
2. Last week Courtney Paris of the University of Oklahoma said that she would pay back her tuition if the OU Women don't win the NCAA Championship. I'm sure in this economy Miss. Paris' father, former 49er Bubba Paris sent his daughter a text message to shut up. But what really has me concerned is that if you get to the Final Four you will have to play either Maryland or UConn. Neither team I believe you can beat.
3. I hate the play-in game. My problem is every year there is always a team from either the MEAC or the SWAC (Historically Black Conferences) and some other small college getting a half-assed tournament experience. You get the stigma of not really being in the tournament. Expand the tournament so everyone gets a chance.
