The Boston Bruins center Marc Savard who was carried off the ice with a concussion after being leveled by the Pittsburgh Penguins Matt Cooke on a blindside hit at 5:37 remaining in Sunday's game.
These things happen but man you hate it for Savard when something like that happens. You have to figure this is a really bad elbow by Cooke and I'm not so sure how Savard will come out of this and he and the Bruins are struggling enough as it is trying to stay on the edge of the playoffs in the east.
Savard is one of the Bruins top players with ten goals and 23 assists and head coach Claude Julien said, "it's pretty obvious it was a dirty hit, that's probably the classic blind side hit to the head, I'm usually reserved making comments but definitely the league will take care it."
Julien has his moments of iron fistdome for lack of a better word and that might be an iron fist moment here without a doubt.
UConn 72nd straight win grows record: The UConn Huskies Women's team tied their own record with 70 straight wins on Sunday and then went onto break their record with 71 straight wins on Monday night and extend their winning streak at 72 with a win over West Virginia on Tuesday night in a game that wasn't even close 60-32. Looks like we have a Final Four candidate here.
That's pretty darn spectacular and the Huskies did it twice and did so quickly this week in a short period of time and give credit to head coach Geno Auriemma who is the man.
It was five years ago when they accomplished this previously "I thought all year long Kalana's been really consistent, whether it's a defensive spurt, offensive spurt or rebounding." Auriemma was referring to Kalana Greene who scored 15 points on Tuesday night.
One of the big amazing deals about this streak it's every single game this team seems to find a way to win even if they have to pull away in the second half and catch up and win.
Jayhawks top on the AP poll: No surprise here at all after beating Kansas State and Missouri, the win helped Hawks head coach Bill Self replace Syracuse's coach Jim Boeheim at number one in the rivals.com College Basketball rankings.
Probation for Edwards no suspension: Carl Edwards will be put on probation by NASCAR for deliberately wrecking Brad Kaselowski's car last weekend in Atlanta. NASCAR president Mike Helton said that Edwards acted unacceptable. NASCAR said that they would allow the drivers more leverage to police themselves and settling scores to energize the sport.
"We made it very clear to (Edwards) that these actions were not acceptable and did go beyond what we said back in January about putting the driving back in the hands of the drivers. We believe (Edwards) understands our position at this point." said Helton.
Watch for Villegas: Camilo Villegas who won the Honda Classic was asked what it felt like to be the second best golfer in the world and he had to laugh. Villegas is on the outside looking in right now. When you win you will have your spot in the masters, he'll challenge and pending the return of Tiger which we don't know what will happen you just don't want to get your hopes up anymore.
With Tiger not around Villegas will take advantage of that and he'll have an off day which we understand but he'll make the best of it for now.
No Tiger at Doral: It'll be the first time that Tiger will miss the California Championship but no surprise. I don't think that Tiger is going to be back for awhile. We can speculate all we want but it's all completely on him. Don't want to guess on Tiger but doesn't look like anything is going to change anything anytime soon.
With a tied poll will Niners get stadium in Santa Clara?: The Niners just don't want to get their hopes up to high here. We love Paramount's Great America, you just don't want to mess with a good thing and if they build that stadium and mess with the parking in anyway shape or form that's going to be a bad thing.
The idea of the 49ers sharing the park with the Raiders bad idea. Two of them sharing the same building not happening.
