San Jose, CA. - The San Jose Earthquakes expansion team has just brought back one of its own. Ronnie Ekelund has just agreed to terms with the quakes to become a technical advisor for the 2008 season. He will be a key part of the training team for the quakes.
Ekelund played for the San Jose Earthquakes for four seasons from 2001 through 2004. The quakes were two time MLS Cup champions during that time. Ronnie was a key part of those championships with his excellent ball handling skills and his leadership on the field.
Ronnie Ekelund left the quakes in 2004 and played for the major indoor soccer league for a team named the California Cougars. He was voted an all-star in that league for the 2005-06 season.
Ronnie also played a significant amount of professional soccer before he came to the quakes in 2001. He played for various international teams starting at age 15, including 135 matches and 22 goals in his time in Europe.
San Jose Earthquakes regular season kicks off in April 2008, with the first home game being April 12th.
