1. Michigan Women's head coach Kevin Borseth blew a gaskit at his press conference after Saturday's loss to Wisconsin 69-67. Borseth walked up to the podium and punched the top of the lechter then complained that the Wolverines gave up too 25 offensive rebounds as Wisconsin came back from a 18 point deficit to win it. Reporters covering the conference said it was the most animated tantrums by a coach that even tops some of Bobby Knight's tirades.
NOTHING WILL EVER TOP A BOB KNIGHT TIRADE.
2. Talk is heavy on the Golden Bears front office that head coach Ben Braun will be checking out soon after the Bears dropped their fourth loss in five tries against last place Washington Huskies 87-84 at Haas Pavilion. Braun had also told one of his players during a time out during the season to "shut up" when the player had questioned Braun about some of the calls he was making. Do you find Braun's bevavoir towards his player was over the top and the alumnis dropping out from supporting Braun a big clue for Braun's exit?
Ben Braun has read the writing on the wall. If Cal keeps him another year, they get what they ask for. He should have been fired three years ago.
3. Stanford's Men's 24-4 (13-3) moves up their record to 24 wins now. The Cardinal beat the Washington State Cougars 60-53 the win is Stanford's 11th win in 12 games going into March Madness. How well do you see Stanford doing in the Brackets this month?
They won't be a #1 seed if they don't win the Pac-10 tournament, but since they have trailed only UCLA in the Pac-10 all season, and they have had solid out of confernce wins, they should do well. Some kind of middle of the pack seeding.
Final Thoughts:
1. As a student at the University of New Mexico I can't help but to feel that Coach Steve Alford will be leaving the LOBO Nation to return home to his alma mater who is need of a new head coach. The situation looks taylor made for Alford to become the next head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers.
You gotta know that Alford has to be looking for a way to get back into the Big 10, and return back to the state where he was Mr. Everything Basketball . . . Let's see what happens.
2. This past weekend New York Times sports columnist William "Bill" Rhoden spoke at the University of New Mexico's Black Cultural Conference "Mahogany Soul." He spoke about a myriad of topics, including his two NY Times Best Selling Books "40 Million Dollar Slaves" and "Third and a Mile." What most impressed me about Mr. Rhoden was his generocity with his time. He patiently answered questions, signed books, took pictures, never once rushing anyone away. He then went to a local high school and spoke to student athletes.
I just want to thank Mr. Rhoden for being a man of character and substance. Someone who I have had the privilege of meeting.
3. I wish to send my sincerest sympathies to the family of Gary Araki. Gary was my copy editor. He passed unexpectedly this past week in his home. I have never formally met Gary, but I loved his coments about my editorials. He was a San Jose State alumni who was head over heels happy with the Spartan football team when they had that wonderful 2006 season.
GARY WE WILL MISS YOU DEARLY! THERE IS ONE HECK OF A COPY EDITOR IN HEAVEN. HOPE YOU GET TO MEET AND TRADE STORIES WITH SOME OF THE GREATS.
