SACRAMENTO - Corliss Williamson is a solid NBA player, having developed quite a bit after he left Sacramento. He'll be a valued addition to the Kings after rejoining them at the trading deadline, having come over in the Chris Webber to Philadelphia deal.

Williamson will be solid. He probably wouldn't start, but he would be a sixth man coming off the bench. He plays a good power forward - not as tall as you'd like at 6-foot-5, but he was valuable in college at Arkansas, where he was able to win the NCAA tournament in 1995.

The sum total of the trade was getting rid of a really solid NBA star - maybe not a superstar - in Webber for two guys who are going to be playing with two forwards. The Kings got rid of Webber, who can change a game, and got two guys that are good reserves, so the Kings lost quite a bit in the translation.

You cant get rid of a star for anyting other than a star, but Webber's knees are really bad. The Kings don't have a as good group this year as they did last year.

It looks like the Kings have gone a little bit backwards, but the operative idea was that Webber is beyond his usefulness. If you take that under consideration, then it becomes a lot easier to understand and accept this as the coming reality.

The Kings aren't going to be as good without Webber. To that end, we don't know if any turmoil between Webber and Peja Stojackovic led to his departure. You can't really talk about the inside workings because nobody except the players on the team honestly understand what's going on.

When you take a star away from a grouping, you do lose out. There were things that Webber couldn't do but there was a lot of great things Webber could do.

Joe Cronin and Ken Gimblin both co-host Sportstalk join them weekends on KVVN 1430 San Jose and 1110 KLIB Sacramento.
