ALBUQUERQUE - In women's basketball, Michigan State
eked out a win over Ohio State. Kristin Haynie hit two
free throws 5.4 seconds left and the Spartans went on
to beat the No. 2 Buckeyes 66-64 in front of 14,066 at
the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich.
Michigan State, 24-3 overall, is tied on top of the
Big 10 standings at 13-2 with Penn State. Ohio State
really thought this was going to be an interesting
matchup, but come the Big 10 tournament, it's going to
be off the hook.
No. 1 LSU is just plowing through the competition;
their only loss this year was to Rutgers. I see them
definitely as a No. 1 seed for the tournament. It's
really going to be wild out there and they do have a
lot of talent in that SEC with Auburn and Alabama, who
are always good, and Tennessee, who always gives them
a challenge. Vanderbilt is also nationally ranked.
Stanford, who is 24-2 overall and 15-1 in conference,
clinched the Pac-10 title on Friday. They will
probably be a top seed at the NCAA tournament.
Also from the top 25, Duke beat Georgia Tech, No. 24
Penn State beat Northwestern 83-56, No. 22 Vanderbilt
took out the University of Florida 76-69, Virginia
takes down No. 20 Maryland 63-61, and No. 12 DePaul
beat Memphis 95-51. All of these teams are on the
bubble now. For a lot of other teams, the bubble has
already burst.
