1. Kelvin Sampson resigned as Head Coach of the University of Indiana's Men's Basketball team. He also opted to take a buy out of $750,000 with the assurance that he would not sue the University. Sampson was charged by the NCAA for five major rules violations concerning recruitment which stemmed from his tenure at Oklahoma which he place some 577 phone calls seeking recruits.
The case was pending when Sampson came to Indiana. Indiana felt Sampson lied during an NCAA investigation in October of 2007. Some players had threatened to walk out of the game Saturday at Northwestern, but recanted. It looked like Sampson and the University had no other choice under the circumstances?
Sampson knew what he and his coaching staff were doing. I don't feel sorry for him. Seems to me he left with a golden parachute. I feel sorry for the athletes. If you came to play for Kelvin Sampson and he showed himself to be less than a man of character, leave. But please understand the only reason Sampson was caught was because he was too stupid to give it a break after he had been caught at Oklahoma. He had to know that the NCAA was going to be keeping a close eye on him and his program.
2. How important was it for Cal 15-9 (6-7) 5th to have had eight days off before facing Stanford Saturday? The Bears have now won four of their last six games.
It wasn't important. Stanford will have their way with Cal. If Stanford loses to Cal than they have completely lost their focus.
3. Stanford 21-3 (10-3) 2nd in Pac 10, 9th in the nation, has won eight of their last nine games. After it's over do you look for Brook Lopez 19.1 ppg and 7.9 rebounds to go pro?
He shouldn't. He is good, but not to leave school early for the NBA good. He should play out his eligibility and then move toward the NBA.
Final Thoughts:
1. The NBA trade deadline is over ending with an 11 player trade, between three teams. The sad part is I don't see how any of those moves really helped any one team. It looked like alot of teams dumping contracts. How exciting for the NBA fans.
2. Candace Parker has decided not to play her last year of eligibility at the University of Tennessee. Parker was a red-shirt freshman and will graduate this May. She will definitly be the number one draft pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft. I say go do your thang girl. There is nothing more you can do on the college level. I hope to see Parker playing on the US Olympic Women's Basketball team this summer in Bejing.
3. Spring Training is upon us. Wake me when it's over.
