SAN JOSE- Andy Roddick will be going for his third title in San Jose, with making it to the finals of the 2008 SAP Open on Sunday, when he will face Radek Stepanek going for the first place prize of $68,000 at 3PM at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.

Roddick defeated Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the Saturday evening 7-6 (2), 6-1 in a 1:33 minute match. Roddick has previously won in San Jose in 2004 and 2005.

“There’s still some things to improve on,” said Roddick about his play against Garcia-Lopez. “I felt it was solid (his game), I hit everything pretty well, and felt I was in control of the match, and didn’t feel like I was going to lose it at any point.”

Lopez had defeated John Isner to get to the semi-finals match against Roddick. Roddick had defeated Marty Fish to get to his semi-final match.

In the first singles semi-final match of the day which was held in the afternoon session, Radek Stepanek from the Czech Republic faced wild card Robby Ginepri. Ginepri defeated second seed James Blake on Friday Night to earn the right to face Stepanek.

Stepanek, the fourth seed in the singles bracket, is currently ranked 34th on the ATP Tour, won 6-2, 7-6 (5) with a tie-breaker victory in the second set. Stepanek has two ATP singles titles in his career, with winning the 2006 Rotterdam event, and the 2007 Los Angeles event.

Stepanek and Roddick last faced each other in August of 2007 at the Washington DC ATP event, and Roddick took Stepanek to three sets, 6-3, 1-6, and 7-5.

“(I) played early on in Washington (against Stepanek) maybe in the first or second round,” said Roddick about the last time he faced Stepanek. “It’ll be a tough one. I feel like if I play well, I have a decent shot at it.”

In the doubles bracket, it will be an all-Stanford match up, as the Bob and Mike Bryan will be taking on the team of Scott Lipsky and David Martin on Sunday. The Bryan brothers defeated the team of Steve Darcis and Kristof Vliegen of Belgium, 6-2, 7-6 (2) in the evening session on Saturday.

The team of Lipsky and Martin defeated the team of Sanchai Ratiwatana and Sonchat Ratiwatana from Thailand, 7-6(3), 6-4 in the second afternoon match.
