1. Northern Illinois University is grieving this week over the seven deaths of students who were shot in cold blood in a stage area by 27 year old student and shooter Steven Kazmierczak. The University has canceled all it's athletic programs until further notice including Saturday night's men's 6-17 (3-8) game with the W. Michigan Broncos 14-10 (8-3). No one can imagine the impact this has on NIU and how long will it take for the students to recover and go back to studying and needless to say get back to basketball?
What am I supposed to say? This is not about sports, this is about some guy who stopped taking his medication and carried out a horrendous act of violence. I sick of hearing about guys who can't take deal with their girlfriends breaking up with them. All I know is that there is another five families left to try to understand why their loved ones will not fulfill all their promise.
2. Stanford University 20-4 (9-3) lost a tough contest in overtime at Arizona 16-7 (6-5) 4th 72-68. Stanford had ASU down in the stretch in regulation until the Sun Devils James Harden got hot and scored four points in regulation that helped ASU get into O.T. Harden the got the ball for ASU's first eight points in the overtime. Do you agree it takes a lot of character by Harden to lead the Sun Devils to victory in a ball game like that?
Character . . . I don't know. I would call game smarts or maybe Harden was in a zone. Stanford will bounce back and challenge UCLA for the Pac-10 Championship.
3. Cal has lost seven of their last 11 games and melted down again at Arizona 16-8 (5-7) 4th on Thursday night 83-73. The Wildcats took a ten point win over Cal for their 13th straight home victory over the Bears a record running since 1995. The Bears couldn't shut down the Wild Cats offense and Jerryd Bayless (33 pts) is Cal's defense really having a stigma at shutting down offenses?
CAL HAS A STIGMA OF HAVING A LOOSING SEASON FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS!!!
Final Thoughts:
1. Kobe Bryant has the most famous pinky in the world. People do you really think that Kobe is going to not play? He is too close to getting to the NBA Finals. He has Pau Gasol, and will hopefully get back a healthy Andrew Bynum. The Lakers are legitimate contenders. Keep your eye on them.
2. This week two games were decided by bad officiating. Rutgers Women's Basketball was robbed of a win over Tennessee due to the fact a clock stopped two at .02 seconds. Yes, Nikki Nagasaki was fouled, but the clock should have run out. The game was over and that is what should have been called. Don't get me wrong. I love watching both of this team play; this is not about like one more than the other. It's about making the correct call. If Rutgers and Tennessee have to meet again I hope is in the NCAA Championship game.
3. Indiana Hoosier Head Coach, Kelvin Sampson has proven once again that he and his staff don't know when to get off the phone. And, because he lied to the Indiana University and the NCAA he is going to loose his job. Is it just a coincidence that Bobby Knight quit his job at Texas Tech? (Now Scratch Your Head and go Hummm).
4. Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee went in front of Congress last week to discuss steroid use, and who lied to the investigators. Roger, you are sitting in front of Congress men and women, do you really think they care that you are a Cy Young winner? Tell me how your best friend, and your wife are doing HGH and you no nothing about it?
