Sportstalk: Michelle sometimes it takes a number three to beat a number 12 because at this time of the year you never know what some teams are liable to do. This was the case when Kentucky #3 24-1 (9-1) beat the Tennessee Vols 18-6 (6-4) on Saturday 73-62.

It was a close game at midway in the second half and the Vols made a contest of it holding onto a 52-50 and lead but the Wild Cats pulled away after J.P. Prince hit a three pointer the Cats added with ten points to keep the lead for good. Head coach John Calipari has done a great job keeping his kids confidence up would you say that is one of the vital successes for the Wild Cats this season?

No what was vital to the success of Kentucky basketball was John Calipari screwing up the program at the University of Memphis just as he did at UMass and running away to KU.

Sportstalk: Kansas Jayhawks head coach Bill Self coached his 400th victory last Saturday with a 73-59. Self said the milestone doesn't quite add up to what coaches Bobby Knight and Dean Smith have done. It took Self 17 seasons to get to this point. Do you agree with Self who said that coaches now get paid well enough and they don't have to stay in the game that long making 800 wins what Knight and Dean accomplished out of reach, that today's coaches get their money and can go on and retire?

Self is correct. Coaches like Bob Knight and Dean Smith will not come along again for a long time. Far to many college coaches are trying to be superstars and not teachers. Say what you will about Bob Knight, but students graduated and he gave back to the student body. The last of the old schoolers is Coach K at Duke. I'm sure he has entertained the the thought of leaving for the NBA, but in the end he knows who he is and what he can and shouldn't do with his coaching career.

Sportstalk: UConn's 25-0 (12-0) Tina Charles had her number 31 placed on the wall at Gampel Pavilion she was emotional with tears before the game for the honor and played with emotion in the game with 25 points and a career high 21 rebounds. Charles was thankful for the UConn program and looks forward to keeping UConn's streak going and also looking forward to March. Talk about Charles career at UConn and do you see her in the WNBA when it's over?

Are you really asking me this question?? What is there to say about her career? UConn is on pace for a second undefeated season, have been the number one team in the country for numerous weeks beginning last year. And you want to ask me will she be in the WNBA when it's all over? Unless she joins the Peace Corp or something Tina Charles will be in the WNBA. UConn will win a second National Championship and go undefeated.

Final Thoughts:

1. The NBA All Star Game was held in the New Texas Stadium. I'm glad I wasn't there. The venue is too big for basketball and unless you pay your kids college tuition for decent seats, you have wasted money. Basketball is a more intimate sport than football. I guess people go what they paid for; to be seen at the NBA All Star Game.

2. There is a rumor going around that the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Phoenix Suns are in trade talks to send Amare Stoudamire to the Cavs. This will be a big mistake. Shaq and Amare didn't play well together in Phoenix, geography will not change that. Also, Stoudamire does not play defense. The Cavs need a defensive stopper to help out LaBron. If this trade happens it will be good for the Suns who will be contract dumping, and bad for the Cavs who will get nothing tangible.

3. This past weekend Grambling State University unveiled the Eddie Robinson Museum. I have not been there, but I can tell you that I will make an effort to go there. Eddie Robinson or Coach Rob as many GSU referred to him was a master teacher and a molder of character. I cannot think of a better person to receive such an honor.
