The Daytona 500 was delayed twice because of asphalt issues twice, the first time it lasted 1:44:45 and then the second one last some 44 minutes plus a total of two and half hours of waiting. It's never fun to wait but in this case you have to have safety.
They had to patch up the asphalt twice and when their going 200 MPH it's something that has to be done to avoid kaos. Jamie McMaurry who won the race doesn't win too often, the last win for McMaurry was at Talladega last fall and he's won now at Daytona twice not the 500 but the War Race and of course Talladega last year.
So far, four career wins three of them on difficult tracks and if your in the right place at the right time anything is possible and McMaurry proved that on Sunday and led in laps and the one with the most won.
The delays at Daytona killed the rhythm but you have to consider that McMaurry drove in a tight race but kept ahead just ahead of second place Dale Earnhart Jr. This win for McMaurry was completely and totally unexpected.
Here was a guy who whip lashed last year, and the rule changes didn't allow more than four drivers on a team and he came back with basically a guy he started his career with Chip Ganassi and now here he is reunited with him and it's a moment that he gave for the ages. McMaurry is a good guy and a good driver and the emotion was nice to see.
It was a great week at the AT&T: It was a great tournament at Pebble Beach and I have to say if you’re not making putts at Pebble or anywhere for that matter, it's going to hurt you. Your typical average winner is only going to be 10-11 under par even though Dustin Johnson won 16-.
Of course this will be a good standard to set at the U.S. Open but it gives the players a shot and it helps accomplish success for winner Dustin Johnson and he accomplished a lot out there on Sunday.
David Duvall finished second and lost by a stroke and it was Johnson who just kept him from the win in the close tournament and won his second straight Open in a row. Duvall is slowly but surely on his way back, he had disappeared, he had jumped off the face of the earth and now with what he's done, he's basically making that climb.
Not sure if he's exempt from Masters competition but if he has any potential like this he can break through and break out of the funk and get eligible and play again.
NBA All-Star game set all time records: Knowing the NBA and how they were able to stuff that many people into the new Texas Stadium that seated some 108,000 for the largest crowd in pro basketball history.
Even though the NBA All-Star game is a playground game and the players kept it entertaining and real and it worked out perfect. 141-139 the East beats the West they'll never see that again during the season.
