2007 Sap Open underway with first round action

SAN JOSE- The 2007 SAP Open Tennis tournament started today with first-round action at the HP Pavilion, and play was highlighted by a two feature evening matinee matches, in which each of the four players are all from the USA.
In the first evening match, Wild-Card seed Sam Querrey won his first-round match with Paul Goldstein, 6-2, 6-1. Querrey, who is on his second year on the ATP, started his ATP Career last year at this same tournament, with a first-round match that he lost to Vince Spadea.
With the victory tonight, Querrey’s next opponent will be the winner of the Andy Roddick, Frank Dancevic match that will be held on Wednesday Night at the HP Pavilion.
In the second match, Amer Delic, took on local Bay Area favorite Sam Warburg. Warburg is a Sacramento native, and Warburg also played four years at Stanford, in during his time there Warburg was Pac-10 player of the year in 2004, and is currently ranked 187th on the ATP Singles ranking.
Delic, a native of Tuzia, Bosnia and now lives in Jacksonville, Florida is currently ranked 88th on the ATP tour. Delic and Warburg went over 40 minutes of play in their first set, in which Warburg won 6-4 over Delic.
In their second set, Warburg took control of things, going 3-0, before giving up the fourth set to Delic putting things at 3-1. Delic and Warburg both took a set, giving Warburg a 5-2 lead, and both players would extend it and it would be a 6-3 final for Warburg.
In the afternoon matinee, 11th seed Kristian Plesss defeated Sergly Stakhovsky 7-5, 6-1. Ivo Karlovic defeated Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 7-6 (7). Simon Greul defeated Robert Kendrick 6-3, 6-2. 21st seed Yen-Hsun Lu defeated Brian Wilson 6-1, 6-2.
Tuesday’s Matchups:
Starting at 9:30AM, the first match will have seventh seed Danai Udomchoke from Thailand going against the US’s Vincent Spadea. Konstantinos Economidis will take on 20th seed Bjorn Phau., and the final singles match of the afternoon session will have qualifier Phillip King taking on 7th seed Hyung-Taik Lee from Korea.
In the evening session, the first match will have Wild Card Scott Oudsema taking on 4th seed Marat Safin, and the premier match of the night will have Andy Murray taking on Kevin Kim.
