HONOLULU--Six New England Patriots will be participating in the 2008 Pro Bowl here in Honolulu they are offensive linemen, Matt Light, Logan Mankins, and Dan Koppen, defensive tackle Asante Samuel, and linebacker Mike Vrabel. All but Light are first time Pro Bowlers.

The Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora is the lone representative from New York. Giants quarterback Eli Manning was in a Super Bowl ticker tape parade in Manhattan in the celebration of the World's Championship down Fifth Avenue.

Meanwhile loosening up the old soup bone at the Illiani Marriott practice field was none other than brother and AFC starting quarterback Peyton Manning.

The beard comes off: For Patriots guard Logan Mankins "life goes on" as he puts it regarding the Super Bowl XLII loss to the Giants last Sunday at Glendale Stadium.

Mankins made a promise in pre-season that he would not shave until the Patriots lost a ball game which they did in the Superbowl, "I did it that night right after the game. I got on the team bus. I had my beard trimmers in my bag, so I just did it on the bus." said Mankins.

Mankins said although he's in Honolulu with five of his other Patriot teammates he'd rather have the Vince Lombardi Trophy sitting in the Foxborough front office display case than anything else.

“You sit there, you wish it would have gone our way but you can't change it. Life goes on. It's nice to be out here with a lot of great guys. But I'd still rather have won," said Mankins.

Osi Umenyiora lone Giant basking in Pro Bowl stardom: Osi Umenyiora made the long trek from Glendale to Salt Lake City and transferred to a plane to fly out to the Islands from there. Umenyiora skipped the ticker tape parade in Manhattan to be here in Honolulu for the upcoming Pro Bowl this week.

Umenyiora didn't feel like flying to New York for the parade Wednesday and then hopping on a plane from New York to Honolulu on Thursday morning, "I hate to fly. That's one of my things is flying. If I would have went to New York, there is no way I would get back out here." said Umenyiora.

So since Umenyiora was in proximity of getting to Honolulu from Arizona he took the flight to the Aloha state and is working out with his NFC teammates who he said that a lot of his teammates on the NFC squad wanted to see the Patriots lose, "I get the sense that a lot of them wanted to see the Patriots lose, for some, it's almost like they won (Super Bowl) they are so happy. I don't know what the Patriots did to everybody, man. Everybody was just happy to see them lose," said Umenyiora.

The publicity around the Patriots cheating in the 2002 Super Bowl one week before the game and also on opening day this season might be for starts the reason why players are mad with the Pats and with the fact that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell who ordered the video tapes of the Patriots filming the Jets practices destroyed might be another reason for why people are not happy with New England.
