Question 1: On last Tuesday night in Albuquerque a brawl ensued between New Mexico University and Wyoming bringing suspensions to the Lobos Jamaal Smith and the Cowboys Brad Jones and Brandon Ewing. Smith was suspended for an elbow and their might be more suspension pending video review from the Mountain West Conference. How did both teams get so hot under the collar?

It really doesn’t matter how both teams got so hot under the collar. What matters is New Mexico Coach Richie McKay continual inability to be an effective coach and leader of young men. McKay has a whole state screaming for him to be fired; and I am with them.

He was counting on everything in his offence going through junior transfer J.R. Giddens. Unfortunately for Lobo fans Giddens performance on the court has not equaled his bravado. But, in Giddens defense he has been playing on a bum ankle. Hey Coach McKay, ONE PLAYER DOES NOT A TEAM MAKE!!! You have lots of talent on your squad and you let Colorado State beat you in your own house a few weeks back.

In the Mountain West Conference this year the cream of the crop are as follows: Air Force, San Diego State, and Brigham Young. All these teams have shown the Lobos that they are ill prepared to make a run a going to the NCAA tournament.

When McKay was hired as head coach in 2003 the attendance in The Pit was 15,000, now attendance is at barely 10,000. New Mexico Athletic Director, Paul Krebs is taking heat in this only his first year as AD. He will not allow McKay to continue to embarrass the UNM by letting him continue to coach. A message to the bevy of talented assistant coaches in the NCAA . . . GET YOUR RESUMES READY; BECAUSE RICHIE MCKAY'S DAYS ARE NUMBERED.

Question 2: The Stanford Women crushed UC Santa Barbara 84-59 Friday. Candice Wiggins and Brooke Smith scored 30 points each to lead the Cardinal who is now an amazing 19-3 and what is your impression of the job the Cardinal have done this year?

I am very impressed with the Stanford women. They are playing very consistent basketball. In years past they were always one of the teams to beat. They still are, but teams really have their scope on North Carolina, Duke, Maryland, and Tennessee. This means that the Cardinal can operate a little under the radar with less pressure. Look for the Cardinal in the Final Four. The ACC and SEC teams will do each other in.

Final Thoughts:

1. Tomorrow, for the first time we will see two Black head coaches lead their team on the largest stage in professional football. I hope this will be enough to eliminate the old boy, redneck, elitist, classiest, notion that Black coaches can't get the job done. HELLO NCAA!!!!!! No matter who wins this game, we all win.

2. Ted Johnson, who won three Super Bowl rings with the New England Patriots says that he is suffering from depression because he was forced to play soon after he suffer multiple concussions. I blame the owners who are only about the money, I blame the coach who has to answer to the money grubbers, and I blame the team doctors who should just know better.

Hey docs remember this little diddy "FIRST DO NO HARM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Please protect these men who give us so much enjoyment. They have families who need them to be healthy and happy after their playing days are over.

3. Finally, it has been over a month since Denver Bronco DB Darrent Williams was killed outside a night club. What I didn't know until after he was laid to rest was that Darrent Williams' mother and father were classmates of mine at O.D. Wyatt High School in Fort Worth, Texas. That hits me very close to home. My high school graduating class stays in touch, and we all hurt for Darrent's parents Rosalind Williams and James Fuller. To loose a child is the worst pain a parent can ever feel. To my classmates I offer my deepest sympathies and I will pray that your pain will subside and leave you with only the loving memories of your son.
