The Zulewski report

Phil Mickelson had to give up his old Ping Eye 2's and he's playing with those types of clubs they don't look harmful or anything but the way the grooves are formatted it was before that standard was changed and golfer Scott McCarron was whining about it saying, "On January 28th I was interviewed by Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle. Ron asked me what I thought about 'Phil and a couple other guys and the old Ping Eye 2's?' I responded 'it's cheating and I'm appalled Phil has put it in play' Despite contrary reports by the media, both in print and TV, I never called Phil Mickelson a cheater. That being said, I want my fans, sponsors and most importantly my fellow players to know I will not be silenced. I will continue my efforts to get the groove issue resolved."

Mickelson has to come clean for the integrity of the sport and it's been pointed out in the rules, so he has to shut up and deal with it. Mickelson has complied with the rules but it went on a couple of days after the issue was brought up about the Ping Eye 2's.

Mickelson has released a double DVD set called "Phil Mickelson's secrets revealed" one thing you can say about Phil is he can teach the game well. I'd like to see Eldrick have a teaching video on golf because he was too busy being a perfectionist. That's just Eldrick and he's away for a while.

The game without Tiger: The playing field is equal now that Tiger has been out of the game for awhile. While he was there it was either impossible or close to beat him out of his game. Although Ben Crane who won it in San Diego at Torrey Pines over the weekend he made two birdie putts together longer than 45 feet which was good enough that missing a few putts didn't matter much and he nailed down the Farmers Insurance Tournament.

John Daly is not going to retire: John Daly is his own man let's give him that much, he'll hang with you, he might have a belt now and then but supposedly he's given that up and he'll play with some flavor.

When you’re missing cuts with the tee shot in the property all over the bets on the courses it becomes a little more like that Happy Gilmore guy, it becomes more like an adventure and the Happy Gilmore heckler looks like a genius. Daly said to the Golf channel, "I'm done, I just can't compete, I just can't play like I'm used to" you interpret that as there is always room to come back.

It was said with emotion and it was said with a plumb, it was said with conviction. Daly is still young enough where he could still play. As long as he can still swing the club it gets in your blood and it doesn't leave, John Daly will find his way back.

MLB commentary: Giants closer Brian Wilson signed on for a one year deal. He's not on the level of a Tigers reliever Jose Valverde or the Brewers Trevor Hoffman. Wilson signed for $4.4 million. He was 11-13 and ERA 3.73 and had 86 saves last season.

The key selling point that got him the deal was the saves, when the ball is in your hands in the ninth inning with runners at first and second, you have to deal with real pressure, you have to close that game and it shows that the Giants have the confidence in Wilson and he will do just fine.

Lincecum is asking for $13 mill in arbitration: The Giants have offered pitching ace Tim Lincecum $8 million in arbitration but Lincecum is countering with a $13 million asking price. The two time Cy Young Award winner can walk away from the Giants if he doesn't get what he's asking for and get a lot more than just $13 million to pitch for another club.

If he stays with the Giants you can best bet he'll settle between those two digits maybe around $10 or $11 million. We'll see how the arbitration plays out.
