Today marked family day, O’hana means family, as part of Pro Bowl week festivities, as everyone moved one day closer to the game, which returns to Hawaii after taking a hiatus to move to Miami in 2010.
Music blasted from the speakers at Aloha Stadium as the day featured cheerleaders from each team doing some dances, team mascots who interacted with the kids and other fans and players. Atlanta Falcons’ Tony Gonzalez threw his shirt into the crowd and Miami Dolphins’ Cameron Wake threw a personally signed football.
Each team came out of their respective tunnels at the pre-arranged times, first the AFC, followed by the NFC later on.
Of the players, the Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Peyton Manning stayed out the longest signing autographs. Quarterbacks Philadelphia Eagles’ Michael Vick and New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees were among others signing as well.
Minnesota Viking’s running back Adrian Peterson expressed that he was having fun in Hawaii and loved the fans.
One player and his family spent some time enjoying Maui.
Expressing the spirit of the day and the Hawaiian people in general, Siaki Mane, head of security, expressed that he keeps people in line with smiles and aloha (love), “that’s the name of the game, keep smiling.”
Other celebrities that showed up for entertainment and/or practice were Hawaiian singer Anuhea and 2009 American Idol winner Kris Allen.
For the Bay Area, defensive tackle Justin Smith represents the San Francisco 49ers and defensive lineman Richard Seymour, tight end Zach Miller and punter Shane Lechler represent the Oakland Raiders.
Kickoff for the game is Sunday 4pm Pacific Standard Time, 2pm in Hawaii.
