Ft.Lauderdale, St.Thomas Aquinas HS: After touching down at the Ft.Lauderdale airport and picking up my rental car at 7:30 am I was hard pressed to make the morning practice of the NFC squad at 8:30 am.
I arrived just as the player's buses pulled up to the gate of Brian Piccolo field. What is immediately conveyed on this high school campus is the great football tradition with such alumni as Michael Irving the former Dallas Cowboy great and Brian Piccolo.
How can it be any more appropriate that these practices be held at St. Thomas Aquinas high school, the winner of six state football championships and part of Florida being the cradle of great football players.
Because of the scheduling of this year’s Pro Bowl many players couldn't participate. Those players who did make it were very accommodating with their time. The atmosphere was very relaxed.
Of interest to San Francisco Forty Niner fans was the presence of DE Justin Smith and TE Vernon Davis to compliment the usual appearances of RB Frank Gore and LB Patrick Willis.
In there were many new faces in attendance. Green Bay Packer quarterback Aaron Rodgers was the big attraction at the NFC practice and Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys was followed by a media crowd.
After all of this it was certainly a letdown for the Scary One to have check into his no tell Motel miles away. Its just a sign of the economic times that I am now headquartered in a place fit for a hitman on the lamb !
My refrain is don't cry for me Honolulu because the sun will shine tomorrow and there is so much great football ahead !
