Sportstalk: Missouri sure had an answer for six inch advantage Brittney Griner of Baylor they shut her down allowing Missouri to win the ball game 70-62 in NCAA Women's basketball. Griner was not allowed to dunk and she had only 12 points as opposed to her usual 18 per game average. Missouri head coach Cindy Stein said about Griner, "Obviously she creates a huge presence out there, we really worked on post play and attacking." Michelle do you see this becoming the pattern with teams to go after Griner because Missouri sure looked like they've found a weak spot?
Brittney Griner is a freshman, and like any freshman athlete she is going to have games where she is going to get shut down. Twelve point and not dunking is not a bad thing. If she didn't get any blocks I'd be more worried about her. That would me that she is not a presence in the paint.
Sportstalk: Cal's Alexis Gray-Lawson had a hot hand with 47 points scored at Corvallis in a huge win over Oregon State 79-75 to improve Cal's record to 10-8 (4-3). Gray-Lawson was 13-31 from the field and 17-20 from the free throw line. Michelle, Alexis enjoyed her biggest game yet on the season and the team took a huge win in Crovallis but talk a little about Alexis' game and your impression of the season that Gray-Lawson is having.
I'll be honest in saying I haven't been watching a lot of college basketball. After all it is still football season until the Super Bowl has been played. Gray-Lawson has a lot to prove this season. She is a senior and wants to make a run for the tournament. She has a good supporting cast and if they are all on the same page the tournament is very possible. How long they last in the tournament is another story all together.
Sportstalk: The Stanford Men's 10-9 (4-3) team has been overshadowed and rightfully so by the Stanford's Women's 17-1 (7-0) team. The Men's team was even in question earlier on but have scraped a few victories together including Saturday's win over Oregon in a 100-80 shootout and the team has moved into second place. Do you see Stanford being able to move forward the rest the season at a pace where they can do some serious damage and be a force the rest of the way?
First, since Tara Vanderveer has been the head coach of the Women's Basketball team they have always out shined the men's team. She is the West coast version of Pat Summit at Tennessee. The Pac-10 Men's side is wide open and it doesn't belong to anyone team. Cal, Oregon State, Washington, Arizona and UCLA are all shooting for the top spot. We've got a month of conference play in front of us. Relax and let the teams work it out.
Final Thoughts:
1. GOOD BYE BRETT FAVRE!!! Don't spend the whole off season jerking people around on if you are going to come back. Either do it or don't but kill the drama.
2. The National Enquirer supposedly has a picture of Tiger Woods outside a rehabilitation center for people with sex additions. I saw the picture it looked like a Big Foot sighting to me.
3. Saint and the Colts in the Super Bowl. I am very happy with this pairing, so I give it my blessing and say Geaux Saints and Go Colts. May the best team win, but may you both give us a memorable game.
4. Hey San Diego Chargers! Remember that quarterback that you got rid of because you didn't think he was good enough for your team, well . . . He's going to the Super Bowl and you get to watch it on TV. Signed Drew Brees
