This was one of those games where the weather made it where the quarterbacks were wild in the Frozen Tundra at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. The New York Giants Eli Manning and the Green Bay Packers Brett Favre were not going to have amazing numbers. With a 20-20 tie in regulation, and then in overtime, Laurence Tynes kicked his third field goal of the game for the game winner for 23-20 victory for the Giants.
Tynes booted a 47 yarder to put the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXIL with the victory over the Pack at Lambeau Field on Sunday night.
The weather conditions were brutal where it was worse than the minus four that both teams played in for the Championship on Sunday the week before. The snow was just so bad that you knew it was going to be the running backs were really going to make the big difference.
In this one Sunday night the quarterbacks were able to move the chains and Favre was able to do the same thing move the chains and in this game it came down to who was going to make the least amount of mistakes. Manning made a few less mistakes than Brett Favre who had a couple bad interceptions and Manning threw no interceptions at all.
Manning had games this season as well as through out his career that were just completely horrendous. Manning had a game earlier this season against the Minnesota Vikings where he threw four interceptions and three of them were returned for touchdowns.
Manning is no stranger to turnovers but he was able to avoid them Sunday and part of that is the running game was working real good and the Giants were able to mix it up.
Manning was not being pressured as much because of the defense laid back and respected the running game a little bit the Packers just didn't go crazy rushing Manning and start knocking him around.
Manning had just enough time and the footing was just bad enough for the defensive team that the wide receivers were getting open and Manning was hitting them and moving the chains.
When you do that three or four times in a row during a ball game and boom your in field goal range then your even down closer and the Giants got inside the ten yard line a number of times and that's where they scored all they're touchdowns.
Manning is a talented guy plus people have been waiting for him to put it together and he's had brain freezes on a number of occasions with the turnovers but Sunday he might have turned the corner.
Manning got the Giants to the Super Bowl and didn't make any mistakes IE: no interceptions, and actually watched as Brett Favre kind of reverted to the Favre we have seen the last few years where he made kind of crazy throws that lead to bad interceptions and he got saved from one of them because R.W.McQuarters made an interception off a Favre throw as he was running on back Favre fumble the ball but the Packers were able to get the ball back.
So Favre got away with one but Favre in the overtime under threw a ball and Corey Webster intercepted it and a few plays later the Giants were kicking the winning field. So Manning avoided that trap on Sunday with a three point win thanks to Tynes.
Manning in the past has had trouble throwing in traffic and interceptions all the way up to this point in his career. In this post season and this year and Manning did the job and was the number one pick just a few years ago finally made it into the Super Bowl.
So Eli is looking forward to being the second Manning in a row to win the Super Bowl but of course he's got the Patriots standing in his way but it will be very compelling football.
