While the San Jose Stealth are trying to come back from another heartbreaking loss to the rival Calgary Roughnecks, they have to be careful and not overlook the Arizona Sting, a doormat last season.

Stealth coach Johnny Mouradian implied on Wednesday that his team will not make that mistake.

“Arizona’s got a young club that’s going to get better every year,” Mouradian said. “We expect them to be up a notch this year. They’ve got a lot of depth.

“By playing a year together, with the core group, with Jason Clark, Darren Hall and Bruce Codd, the offense is more mature. They’re just getting better because they’ve been together. We’re going in against a team that’s maturing, and we’re a team that’s just starting. I think that’s the difference.”

Meanwhile, Stealth forward Ryan Boyle was voted by the NLL’s coaches and general managers as the league’s Rookie Of The Week for the second week.

In two games against Calgary, Boyle scored nine points (three goals and six assists) and also snatched 12 loose balls. His nine points ties him for seventh in the league.

“He fits in real well with his teammates because he has the learning ability to sit back and take in what happens and assess it all,” Mouradian said. “Here’s a kid averaging 4.5 points a game. Even though the season is still young, to be tied in points with a guy the caliber of Kaleb Toth from Calgary, who’s a NLL veteran, speaks well of Ryan and where he's going to be in this league. We are looking for him to show some great leadership.”

Boyle said he was pleased with his performance, but now’s not a time to slack off.

“I think it went well overall,” he said. “I’m not afraid to admit I still have a lot to learn and while there's always room for improvement, I’m happy I was at least able to help my team in both games. At least I didn't put up goose eggs, right?"
