SACRAMENTO - The Phoenix Suns just finished losing
four straight on the road. Maybe this is a sign of the
Suns being spent for the season, but don't count on
it. It seems like the Suns are a real deal in the NBA
Pacific Division.
The Kings are going to jell quite a bit more before
March. New acquisition Cuttino Mobley is a good
shooter - he can give you the three when you need it
-and now everybody has to guard all five of the Kings
players. Sacramento will likely go into the playoffs
at nine or 10 men in the rotation and if they're all
healthy, there's a chance hope springs eternal. Mobley
will add an offensive part to the Kings at guard
that's going to make him a lot tougher.
Coaches' Corner: Head coach Rick Adleman is the guy
who knows what he has and when he realizes what he
has, the first thing he does is to take it and try to
make it better. Mobley may have been the best player
available, but he may not be available for next year
unless he has a good half of this season.
The fact Mobley was available has really more to do
with his signing of a contract than anything else. At
the beginning of this year, Mobley was looking around
and insisted he wants to be rich. Some of them make it
and some don't.
If Mobley is happy here - and he will be - this is a
good team. It's mostly lets try to play the best
basketball we can. The players seem to be a much
happier group. By the time the playoffs come around,
this could be a somewhat different team only because
there's so many ways to develop.
Coach Adleman has to put Mobley into the offense and
he's got to learn to play the team defense that the
Kings do actually pretty well, not the best defensive
team in the league.
