SAN JOSE - Hockey players should start wearing an eye visor on their helmets. Because if you’ve ever had a stick in your eye, you know it’s not something that is particularly pleasant.
Imagine that’s what being hit in the eye with a hockey stick feels like.
Hockey players should come into the 21st century and adopt more modern facial gear. Why should they have to put themselves in jeopardy of going through life with only one eye?
Toronto's Owen Nolan’s eye injury almost resulted in just that. Hopefully Nolan will be all right soon and be back on the ice.
If it were my choice, I would have hockey players put on a protective visor or some sort of mask. It worked for Jason in Friday the 13th, it should work for these guys as well.
Hockey players are a tough lot and they are macho-macho men. So naturally people might think that amongst their peers that they’re not being tough guys, if they wore some sort of protection for their eyes.
The NHL players are macho but they should look after their eyesight first and foremost. It should be a uniform rule-everyone should be wearing masks that would eliminate this problem or at least eye protection.
