SACRAMENTO - First of all, let's face facts - the
Phoenix Suns are a good team and the Kings are eight
games back in second place in the Pacific Division. As
far as the Kings are concerned, the loss of sixth man
Bobby Jackson has hurt them, especially on the
defensive end.
On the Kings' just-concluded road trip, Atlanta almost
beat them - they were lucky to walk away with the win
there. New Orleans did beat them. In Sacramento, you
don't read about anything else in the sports page.
Everything else is secondary and the Kings take up
eight or nine pages.
Frankly, the Kings are closer in the standings to the
Lakers than the Suns. The Lakers are only 3 1/2 games
behind the Kings.
The big question is do the Kings have the bench that
could really hurt them down the road? The Kings
haven't really been affected by it because the season
is relatively early. The really big question is Chris
Webber and if he can sustain himself the rest of the
year. If the Kings are going anywhere in the playoffs,
they really need to have Webber come through.
You need everything you can and with Jackson being
out, it'll be a big factor for Sacramento.
Maurice Evans is the rookie coming to fill Jackson's
spot. With all the things you have to pick up in that
role, you're really getting an education in the NBA.
The Kings are going to have to compensate and maybe
that's one area where they can do it.
