The city of Boston maybe on the other side of the country, but if you are the Boston College Eagles football program, it must seem that the city of San Francisco must be on the east coast.

Since the inception of what was then called the San Francisco Bowl in 2002, then the Diamond Walnut Bowl, then the Emerald Bowl and now the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, this is the Eagles third trip to the bowl game.

Actually, the Eagles are the answer to a trivia question of sorts, as they were the last team to win a game at what was then called Pacific Bell Park, before the name change to SBC Park and finally AT&T Park.

In their first appearance in the bowl game on December 31, 2003, the Eagles, who were then playing in the Big East Conference faced the Colorado State Rams of the Mountain West Conference and defeated the Rams by the final score of 35-21.

Fast forward nearly seven years later, and the Eagles returned to the Bay Area to face the USC Trojans in last year’s tilt, in what was the last Emerald Bowl prior to the name change.

In a tough tussle against the Pete Carroll coached Trojans, the Eagles lost to the Trojans by the final score of 24-13 on a rain-soaked night at AT&T Park.

As for the Eagles opponent on Sunday, this will be the first appearance by the Nevada Wolfpack in the bowl game played on the Shores of McCovey Cove.

This was a memorable season for the Wolfpack, as they put a stop to the Boise State Broncos undefeated streak, defeated the Broncos on the campus of Nevada in Reno.
