Mountain Lions destroy Omaha 41-3

The Sacramento Mountain Lions beat the Omaha Nighthawks by a 41-3 score to remain in the hunt to play in the UFL Championship Game two days after Thanksgiving in Omaha's Rosenblatt Stadium. These same Nighthawks must beat the Florida Tuskers next Saturday Night in Omaha.

Last Year the UFL was a four team league who played a six game schedule. This year the UFL added Hartford and played an eight game schedule over two weeks. Next year the league will add a team in Virginia (probably Norfolk), call them the Destroyers. Look for them to play a 10 game schedule over 12 weeks.

Tonight was perfect football weather, low 60s, and the game attracted a capacity crowd. Attendance has averaged about 18,000 for the four home games in the Sacramento State Stadium. That's darn good.

Dante Culpepper had a big night throwing the ball and Cory Ross gain well over 100 yards on the ground. And the play calling kept the Nighthawks on their heels all night. It was the most entertaining game of the season. Ross scored on a 67 yard play in the middle of the third quarter to break the game open. The final score was a short run by John David Washington, Denzel’s son. The Mountain Lions accumulated nearly 500 yards of offense.

The only problem with Sacramento's chances for the Championship game is that this same Omaha team the Mountain Lions just took apart will have to come to life and beat the Florida Tuskers, albeit before a home crowd in Omaha. Remember: if Omaha loses, the Tuskers are in the Championship Game against Las Vegas, like last year.

I'm afraid betting on Omaha would be foolish. But at least it's possible.
