LOS ANGELES--It wasn't even close from any angle inside Staple's Center as the L.A. Lakers finally snapped an uncharacteristic losing streak which ended at four games taking it out on the visiting Sacramento Kings who kept their losing streak going at six games in a 113-80 loss. It had been L.A.'s longest loss streak since April 2007.
The visit by the Kings was more than welcomed as the Lakers wanted to find any salvation from any further embarrassment. Head coach Phil Jackson and star Kobe Bryant wanted to end this frustration not seen by a Laker team in quiet sometime with some kind of victory and the Kings filled the bill, "It's hard to judge, have we broken free from the bonds that held us back?" questioned Jackson, "or did we just get a weak sister at this time of year?"
Kobe had 22 points in the contest, Paul Gasol with 16 as the Lakers looked like their old selves. It was unfortunate for the Kings they looked like they're old selves too and couldn't get any offense going against Los Angeles with Jason Thompson racking up a team leading 19 points, Tyreke Evans followed up with 15 points and Pooh Jeter came off the bench with a contribution of 11 points.
For the Lakers LaMar Odom contributed with 16 points and it was a game where the Kings defense couldn't shut down the Lakers distribution inside the paint and the turnovers and break aways killed the Kings on defense, "all I'm going to say is that we played the right way, it felt good to win this game, but it's more about doing the right things to be successful." said Kobe
The Kings were short in scoring in every frame of the game and although no one would admit it in the Kings dressing room the Lakers were going to be trouble all night long, the Lakers took an 18 point lead after the first half and with the performance of Kobe and Gasol the team extended the lead to 32 points by the third quarter to put it out of reach for Sacramento.
"It's a lot going on right now and its frustrating, we've been losing. Nobody in here wants to lose on purpose. We've just got to go out there and find a way. It starts with us. The coaches they coach but we're the ones on the floor." said Evans who had place second in Kings scoring.
