Kings fall short in New Jersey

Lopez scored 29 points, and the New Jersey Nets made a late surge for a 106-100 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

Lopez was also 13-of-15 from the line while grabbing six boards for the Nets, who have started 2-0 for the first time since 2002-03 despite blowing an 18-point lead earlier in the game. Devin Harris provided 21 points and 10 assists, while Travis Outlaw contributed with 18 points in the victory.New Jersey, which beat Detroit in its opener after finishing the game on a 13-3 burst, ended this contest on a 17-3 run to claim victory. The Nets were able to win the game despite taking only 61 shots, while the Kings shot the ball 93 times.

Tyreke Evans led a balanced attack with 18 points and seven assists for the Kings, who were looking for their first 2-0 start since 2003-04. Francisco Garcia came off the bench to add 18 points, while Carl Landry and Beno Udrih each had 14 in defeat.

DeMarcus Cousins and Darnell Jackson both provided 12 points for Sacramento. Trailing, 97-89, with 3 1/2 minutes to play, the Nets kicked it into another gear to move in front for good. Lopez's ensuing hook shot began a string of 13 straight points -- six by Harris. Harris' long distance shot with 1:12 left put New Jersey ahead by a point, 98-97, as Sacramento missed six straight shots during the streak.

Evans made his season debut after serving a one-game suspension to open the season...The Nets recorded their second home win last season on December 30.New Jersey shot 52.5 percent from the field, including 6-for-11 on three- point attempts.The Nets out-rebounded Sacramento, 43-31, though the Kings had 10 more points in the paint (44-34). The Kings will continue a three game road trip to start the season tomorrow at Cleveland.
