The Dallas Mavericks still have reason to bring their A game vs. a lottery team like the Sacramento Kings. If Dallas can win their last two games they will secure the number two seed in the ultra tough western conference. Dallas lead for the entire 48 minutes and as much by 25 at one point in the third quarter before winning 126-108 in front of 15,247 at Arco Arena.
Dirk Nowitzki, fresh off a 40 point 10 rebound performance just last night in Portland torched the Kings for 39 points tonight on 12-20 from the floor. Nowitzki scored 22 of his 39 points in the in the 3rd quarter. Nowitzki was a perfect 13-13 from the free throw line and has now made 68 straight from the charity stripe. After the game Kings coach Paul Westphal says that when it is all said and done Nowitzki will go down as one of the best players to ever play in the NBA "Well we had a nice crowd out there supporting us tonight and they got to watch Dirk Nowitzki show what he can do. He showed why he's one of the greatest players to play this game. It looked like the basket was like three times the size of a normal basket whenever he shot the ball tonight."
Jason Kidd recorded his 105Th career triple double finishing with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists. It was Kidd's second triple double of the year. Jason Terry came off the Dallas bench to score 25 points, 6 assists and 2 steals.
Tyreke Evans recorded 27 points to go with 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and one monster block of Jason Kidd. It was Evans 39Th 20 point performance of the season. Evans needs 24 points in the remaining two games to join Oscar Robertson, Michael Jordan and LeBron James as the only players to average at least 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists per game in their rookie game. Carl Landy tallied a team-high 30 points, falling just one point short of his career high but the 30 points was the most Landry has recorded in a Kings uniform.
The Mavericks swept the regular season series against the Kings 4-0. Dallas has won 14 of the last 16 meetings versus the Kings, including the last six.
The Kings have two remaining games, with their final home game Monday versus Houston.
