Carl Landry was traded two weeks ago by the Houston Rockets for former Sacramento Kings franchise player Kevin Martin. Landry had his best game as a King with 22 points and 10 rebounds and got the last laugh against his ex teammates with an 84-81 victory.
Landry got a standing ovation from the Houston crowd before the game and even received “LANDRY” “LANDRY” chants before he won the tip to start the game. Landry said after the game that he was nervous before the game but got some advice from head coach Paul Westphal “He said to be aggressive, that I didn’t need to go out there and score 40 points. I really didn’t know how to go about this game and he said, just be relaxed, be comfortable and play your game.
Landry made all 8 free throws and had 2 blocks and a steal. After the game Landry said “I just wanted to get the win. It (The win) was a sigh of relief. I had fun here and Houston is a wonderful place with great fans. It was real fun playing against all of my brothers on the other side.”
Martin, who led the Kings in scoring the previous three years, struggled against his former team scoring just 14 points on 3-13 shooting. Martin said “we wanted that one, it just didn’t happen. We played good defense but didn’t get into any type of rhythm.”
Aaron Brooks had 22 points for the Rockets but was just 2-13 from long range including a three at the buzzer that would have tied the game. Luis Scola scored 19 points and had a career high tying 18 rebounds.
The Kings only shot 32 % from the field but lead the entire game after taking the lead 13-12 early in the 1st quarter. Sacramento got their sixth road win of the year and their 3rd win in the last four games. The victory also snapped the Kings six-game road losing streak at Houston.
