Richard Hamilton tallied a game high 30 points and Tayshaun Prince added 22 points as the Piston defeated the Kings 101-89 in front of 11,000 plus fans at Arco Arena. The crowd seemed a lot less then the number, especially considering it has been raining all day in Sacramento and the Pistons are not the draw they used be when they were one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. Those fans who did show up had very little to get exited about. The Kings fell below 500 at home for the first time this season with a 13-14 record.
Rookie Tyreke Evans led the Kings with 28 points and a career high 13 assists in 43 minutes of action. It was Evans 7Th double-double of the season. Carl Laundry made his Sacramento debut and finished with 18 points and 3 rebounds. The loss for the Kings was their fifth straight and fifth straight defeat at home.
Hawes Suspended
Kings center Spencer Hawes was inactive for tonight’s game by Kings Coach Paul Westphal for comments that surfaced in today’s Sacramento Bee. Here is the quote that got Hawes into hot water with the Kings first year coach “Everyone up and down the roster has had a taste of that (inconsistent playing time) , so everyone can relate. I think it’s kind of tough, the not-knowing part on a game-to-game basis, to get in that rhythm. But that’s the way it’s going and there’s not a whole lot you can do about it.” When asked after the game Westphal said “now he knows his role” and when asked if Hawes will play in the Kings next game Friday at home against Utah coach said “Well see”.
