The Sacramento Kings head to the all star break with some positive momentum after they defeated the Detroit Pistons 103-97 to win their first road back-to-back games since the 04 season. After starting the season 3-22 on the road the Kings have won two straight away from Sacramento. The Kings finish the East Coast road trip with a 2-1 record. With win number 18 the Kings have passed their win total of 17 from last year.
Kevin Martin had his best all around game since returning from injury to score 26 points while fellow guard Beno Urich chipped in with 22. Andres Nocioni added 13 points while Tyreke Evans had another great 4Th quarter, scoring 7 of his 13 in the final period.
After the game Kings coach Paul Westphal was asked how big it was for a young team to get back-to-back wins, “I’m very happy, our team is getting better and one of our problems has been that we let go of leads and two nights in a row we did just the opposite. Tonight our defense really stiffened up and we actually got some stops which is what we needed to do if you want to win road games in this league. So, we are learning and we are getting good performances from different people and we hate to have this break happen right now. However, it’s a good time for it and it is good to take two road wins into the break.”
Tayshaun Prince led the Pistons with 23, while Rodney Stuckey finished with 17. Detroit has lost five of six at home, with the only win coming over New Jersey, who is on pace to pass the 1972 76ers for the worst NBA record of all time.
The Kings will be off until next Tuesday night when they host the Boston Celtics. Omri Casspi and Tyreke Evans will be participating in these weekends’ all-star festivities in Dallas in the Rookie-Sophomore game on Saturday night. The two rookies will be the first players since Peja Stojakovic 03 to participate in the all star weekend festivities.
